Celfwaith is a public art consultancy. Our aim is to promote and develop the artist’s role in the public realm. Through working in partnership we can raise ambition and deliver inspiring projects that make a positive contribution to our environment and our communities.

We provide a number of services including:
Project Management
Exhibition curation
Strategy development
Policy development
Public art training

We're also happy to provide advice on specific aspects of public art projects such as budgets or contracts.

Our areas of expertise include art in regeneration, art in hospitals, and art and architecture. We are particularly interested in finding opportunities for craftspeople to work on a larger scale and establishing creative collaborations between artists and architects and engineers.

Recent projects:

Riverside Walkway, SA1
Having produced a public art strategy for SA1, Celfwaith began the process of implementing proposals. Craig Wood and Perry Roberts were commissioned to devise a series of works for the Riverside Walkway which would create an interesting trail to arouse the curiosity of pedestrians and provide surprises. The history of the docks was the subject, but to be interpreted in a contemporary way. The series of works include
ships names grit-blasted into the walkway of ships registered in Swansea since 1824,
boulders placed along the river's edge etched with motifs referring to the manufacture, export and import of goods from the docks, e.g. the chemical symbols for carbon, copper and iron, and floral patterns from Swansea's ceramics.
'tattoo carpet' designs etched and painted in the paving composed of historical maritime tattoos and those worn by Swansea residents today.

Ysbyty Cwm Cynon
Celfwaith was appointed by Cwm Taf Health Trust to produce a commissioning plan and to implement public art commissions for the new Ysbyty Cwm Cynon. A broad theme of 'bringing the outside in' had been suggested by HLM Architects and the hospital's footprint echoed the curve of the nearby river Cynon. The building was designed to harness the use of natural daylight with a particular sensitivity to the surrounding landscape, therefore texture, material and the play of natural light were also key considerations when forming the artists' briefs.
Five artworks were commissioned:
Atrium relief sculpture by Kathy Dalwood
Lightwell architectural glass by David Pearl
Sculptural seating and landscaping for the courtyard by Walter Jack Studio
Glass and textile panels for the corridor walls by Laura Thomas
Photographic work on diasec panels for the restaurant area by Pascal Dubois

Discover the Valleys
Ten artists were commissioned to create images for advertising posters to promote the South Wales Valleys under the slogan 'Discover the Valleys'.
